Float mounting miniature rectangular connectors for applications in high vibration environments

Hypertac presents its PZC range of float mounting miniature rectangular connectors. The ruggedized and EMI shielded connectors were specifically developed for severe environments such as military applications (avionics, missiles, etc), where signal integrity and resistance to high vibration levels are vital.

The float mounting design of the PZC connector offers the following advantages:

  • Mating accuracy: polarized guides ensure a positive mating in blind connections or hard to reach areas
  • Reliability of electrical contact: the float mounting compensates for mechanical misalignment up to 2mm during blind mating, ensuring excellent signal integrity
  • Quick and easy connection/disconnection.

The PZC connector is equipped with removable crimp contacts and is available in 20 and 41 ways.  Its nickel plated aluminium shell provides excellent resistance to corrosion (150h salt spray) and is RoHS compliant. The backshell provides continuity of the cable shielding through the use of a band clamping system.

Using the proven Hypertac® hyperboloid technology, PZC connectors provide excellent reliability under high levels of shock and vibration, as they can withstand shocks of up to 120g for 2ms or 320g/3ms and 20g vibrations between 10 and 2000 Hz. They are rated for use across the -65 to +125°C temperature range.

PZC connectors improve system reliability by eliminating contact fretting, hence reducing wear rates and avoiding system failure and down-times. They also benefit from a very low contact resistance and offer a minimum of 500 mating cycles.
