Hypertac has developed a new generation of couplers to address the challenges faced by train manufacturers managing an increasing amount of data transmissions between the different equipments such as passenger information and entertainment systems, on-board computers, heating and air-conditioning and safety equipment.
This rectangular modular coupler secures signal transmissions in the sensitive area located between coaches of all types of rail vehicles, from high speed trains to metros and trams.
The modular connector inserts can comprise a combination of signal and high speed contacts, including fibre-optic which prevents sensitivity to electric perturbations and increases the speed of transmissions.
Hypertac new generation coupler features several innovations:
- the modular inserts can be equipped with up 60 signal contacts, 4 high speed contacts (coax, twinax, triax or quadrax) for Ethernet transmissions up to 1.2 GHz, and 12 fibre-optic Multimode contacts (50/125 or 62.5/125);
- its rectangular format enables a higher density of contacts than traditional circular couplers, enabling space saving;
- its modular design also enables to change the contact arrangements inside the same connector.
The connector's ruggedized aluminium shell guarantees excellent resistance to the high levels of shock and vibrations associated with rail vehicle applications. It also meets the harsh environmental conditions for both corrosion resistance (500 hours minimum salt spray) and sealing (IP66 according to CEI60529).
Its screw coupling has excellent mechanical endurance under vibration. The connector also guarantees a high level of mechanical endurance of the cables (up to 1 million swaying cycles) through the use of anchoring cable glands.
